Onions are poisonous to dogs and should be avoided at all costs! Cabbage can give your dog excess gas which can be very uncomfortable for the dog and not very environmentally friendly for you. Too many vegetables can lead to an excess of fibre in your dogs diet which can make your dog strain when going to the bathroom. Citrus fruits are a good solution to this problem.
Corn and wheat products are a huge no-no! Dogs and cats absolutely cannot digest the plant cell walls of corn, wheat, barley and any grain products. These products, if consumed regularly over time, can cause a great deal of damage to the animals' pancreas, liver and kidneys. When you think about it from the dog or cats perspective, these foods are very unnatural to them. No where in the wild would a dog find a wheat or grain product and consume it.
Excess of meat products such as beef, pork, fish and lamb . If you are going to feed your dog beef it should be organic. Part of the problem with beef is that the steroids and antibiotics we put in beef to sterilize it in order to feed it to the human market makes it harmful to the dogs system. Chicken can be the mainstay of the diet because it is readily available and easily digested and these other meats should be used for variety.
Pork and pink fish like Pacific salmon should be avoided. If not prepared properly there is the threat of trichinosis, or "salmon poisoning".
Duck and Lamb are very fatty meats and if your whole point is to keep your dog thin, then too much duck or lamb will not help you.
Excess of organ meats. Organ meats should definitely be given but excess can lead to overdose of vitamin A, no more than once per month is recommended.
