Puppy Training Preschool Program

The first 16 weeks of a puppy’s life are critical to establishing the foundation for its future behaviour – and for a happy, healthy, and mutually-respectful relationship with its owner. It is during this formative time that puppies develop 90% of their attitudes toward people, other dogs/animals, and their environment and surroundings.

Puppy Training

Our puppy preschool program will help avoid frustrations as the owner-dog relationship develops by educating owners on how to deal with some common “puppy problems” right from the beginning. Your dog trainer will provide an analysis of your puppy’s temperament and personality, as well as teach you how to communicate with your dog. Communication equals understanding – the more you learn about your puppy, the better you can shape/influence the behaviour you want from your companion.

Puppy Training: What Is Involved?

The puppy preschool program is designed to help puppies and their owners get off on the right foot (paw?) to ensure a happy, healthy, and long-lasting relationship.

Our program can be completed in one session or three in-depth sessions, conducted in your home by a professional dog trainer. It examines a wide array of skills, behavioural difficulties, and environmental aspects (both home and family) to help establish a strong foundation for the owner-dog relationship and influence important life skills for the dog.

In the session or sessions, you will address the following elements:

  • Housebreaking
  • Nutrition and Feeding
  • Chewing, Nipping, and Play Biting
  • Jumping
  • Pulling/Tugging
  • First Aid
  • Dog and Child Safety
  • Walking on a Loose Leash
  • The Importance of the Crate
  • Positive Puppy Games

Puppy Training: When Can My Puppy Enroll?

Right Now! You can book a training session – for yourself and your puppy – at any time before the puppy is 16 weeks old. After that age, your dog is old enough to be enrolled in one of our formal dog obedience training programs.

Frequently Asked Questions About Puppy Training

How Can I Crate Train My Puppy?

House training a pup is all about patience, positive reinforcement, and consistency. The main aim is to build a loving, lasting relationship with your pet while instilling good habits in them. It is best to enroll in puppy training classes with a reputable school such as Alpha Paws to accomplish this without any hassles.

How Long Does It Typically Take to House Train a Puppy?

When it comes to puppy potty training, it usually takes around 4 to 6 months. However, it may also take them a year to get trained well. This depends on their size, age, metabolism, breed, previous living conditions, old habits, and more. It is essential to follow a management program and instill good habits in them gradually.

Should Puppies Have Free Access to Water?

The amount of water your pup drinks depends on their size, age, and activity level. Generally, they may need around half a cup of water every two hours. It helps to monitor their water intake to ensure they are drinking enough of it. Also, be sure to remove their water bowl at night as part of your puppy training routine.

When Should You Begin with Puppy Potty Training?

According to the experts in puppy training classes, it is beneficial to potty train your puppy when they are around 12 to 16 weeks old. This is because they have enough control over their bowel movements and bladder. However, if your pup is older than 12 weeks, it may take longer to train them.
